Planning for Your Wedding Day Hair

It’s been a year of wedding fever and, no doubt, the high-profile marriage of Harry and Megan will have prompted more than a few proposals. And once the initial elation of saying ‘yes’ has passed, the planning begins.

The dress, the flowers and the venue will all be on your planning list, but don’t forget to include that all-important wedding hair too. The last thing you want on your big day is a lacklustre hair look letting you down – and remember it’s a look that will stay with you forever in every wedding photo.

But don’t panic, we have all the advice you need to ensure your wedding hair is your crowning glory when you come to say ‘I do’ in our wedding hair countdown.

8-12 months before the big day

There is a plethora of stunning wedding hair looks on every social media platform, but Instagram and Pinterest should probably be your first port of call when looking for inspiration. It’s never too early to start your wedding hair research. If you’re planning a spring or even a summer wedding then why not start clicking on those hashtags now and begin compiling your own wedding hair mood board. On Instagram, #weddinghair produces more than 3,500,000 results, so there’s certainly plenty of possible looks to fire your imagination, from highly structured updos to more relaxed looks featuring braids and loose chignons. There are also loads of examples of accessories that can help lift your wedding hair look above the ordinary.

Many brides will decide to grow their hair for the big day so that they have as much choice as possible when it comes to their bridal hair look. If you’re going from short or mid-length to long then you’ll need to book in for regular trims with your stylists to get rid of any frayed ends as it grows.

If you’re growing your hair it’s also important to get it into peak health, so, we’d always recommend booking in for The Ultimate Treatment. The protein-based treatment will nourish and hydrate your hair while strengthening and smoothing, so you don’t have to worry about frizz or breakage as it grows.

Even if you plan to keep your hair short for the wedding It’s a good idea to book your first treatment early, so you and your stylist can see and feel the benefits of nourished, hydrated more manageable hair, and start experimenting with styles with hair that is in the best possible health.

When you have a selection of images that you feel could be THE look for the day, it’s time to book an initial wedding hair consultation with your stylist. Take any images you have saved along with you – hairdressers love to have something visual as a guide. This is the time to chat through all your wedding hair wishes and also to raise any concerns you might have about your hair. Your stylist will be able to advise on which looks will most suit your face shape and also point out any issues with your hair that might need addressing in advance of the wedding to ensure you get the hair look you desire.

If you haven’t already introduced KeraStraight’s homecare products into your hair regime, now is a good time to start, to ensure your hair is positively glowing with health when you come to walk down the aisle. You could introduce a weekly pampering using one of our masks – Moisture Mask, for example, will nourish and hydrate dry or damaged hair leaving it sumptuously soft. It’s also worth looking again at the shampoo and conditioner you use. Depending on the specific needs or your hair, we’d recommend regular washes with either Moisture Enhance Shampoo & Conditioner or Volume Enhance Shampoo & Conditioner. Both are sulphate-free, so will cleanse and condition without weighing hair down with unnecessary nasties.

Book yourself in for your final Ultimate Treatment – the fabulous effects last for up to four months, so you’ll be guaranteed healthy, manageable hair for the day itself.

This is also a good time to book in with your stylist for a trial run of your wedding day hair look. Make sure you take any hair accessories you plan to wear along to your appointment, including veils. This is the chance to make sure the whole ensemble works and to make any changes necessary well in advance of the big day so there won’t be any last-minute panics.

In the weeks leading up to your wedding day, make sure you keep up your homecare regime. And remember, if you want to keep your hair in peak condition always protect your hair when using heated styling tools. Straightening hair with irons without protection, for example, will cause damage, which is the last thing you want so close to your wedding day. We’d recommend using Heat Protect, a lightweight spray that forms a protective barrier, locking in moisture while offering light hold. All you need to do is apply a little of the spray onto dry hair immediately before you use straighteners or any heated tool. This way you can style with confidence, creating a foundation of strength and long-lasting support.

On the day!

If you’re heading off on your honeymoon soon after the wedding, treat yourself to a Moisture Mask, this will help your hair stay full of shine and frizz free wherever you choose to go.

And when you get back to the real world, help rebuilt those moisture levels and prolong the effects of your Ultimate Treatment by booking into the salon for a Moisture Boost. This concentrated treatment delivers incredible hydration, shine and repair, leaving hair softer and feeling renewed.

Good luck to all you future brides. We hope you have a fabulous day with hair to match.
