Hairdresser of the Year 2014: The Best Bits!

The British Hairdressing Awards celebrated their 30th year in November with a glittering event. Just one hundred hairdressers attended the very first awards in 1984, but this year saw more than 1,700 professionals gather to celebrate in style.

The ultra-glamorous Grosvenor House hotel in London hosted the awards. The evening started with a rather emotional retrospective film highlighting the achievements of the past 30 years. Guests were entertained by comedian James Corden (of Gavin and Stacey fame) before being treated to a gourmet 3-course meal.

As the awards got underway, finalists for the Hairdresser of the Year award proved their worthiness for a nomination with stunning catwalk shows. And Boy band Union J added a touch of Christmas cheer to the evening with a festive rendition of It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.

Nominees and Winners

The finalists for the coveted awards were announced back in July. We were thrilled to see lots of nominees from KeraStraight partner salons, including Darren Ambrose and Jamie Stevens up for the grand Hairdresser of the Year award. Collaborating with award-winning salons and hairdressers is a great honour for us. We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our congratulations to all those nominated!

And now, without any further ado, it is our great pleasure to announce that of the 16 winners, two were from KeraStraight partnered salons. Congratulations!

Jamie Stevens – Men’s Hairdresser of the Year 2014

At the tender age of just 33, Jamie Stevens already has a slew of awards under his belt. He has been twice-nominated for the Hairdresser of the Year award and holds the impressive title of the youngest person ever to be nominated.

Jamie is a world-class celebrity stylist, cutting for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Elle Macpherson, Hugh Grant and Gok Wan to name a few. He is the hairdresser-in-residence for some hugely popular TV shows including The X Factor, This Morning and How to Look Good Naked.

Jamie has won the Men’s Hairdresser of the Year award for the second time this year and judging by his collection; it’s easy to see why. Congratulations Jamie!

Clayde Baumann – British Colour Technician of the Year 2014

South African-born Clayde Baumann is the Colour Director at D&J Ambrose in London. Since moving to the UK in 2007, Clayde has worked on some high fashion projects including shows for London Fashion Week.

In 2013, Clayde was awarded the title of Wella Master Colour Expert and placed in the top 10 of the Wella Trendvision Awards’ UK Colour Category. In 2014, he was invited back to the Wella Trendvision Awards as a judge.

Clayde’s collection for the British Hairdressing Awards was highly innovative. It featured a bold copper look and several creative takes on the ombré trend. A well-deserved win. Congratulations Clayde!
