Trevor Sorbie, the world-class hairdresser and entrepreneur, is the Global Ambassador for KeraStraight. We are proud to be working closely with such a revolutionary industry veteran - Trevor and his team will be spreading the good word about our range of smoothing and repairing treatments through several creative and educational projects.
The Life and Work of a Pioneer
Trevor Sorbie was born in Scotland in 1949 to a family of barbers. Hairdressing is in his blood and at the tender age of 15, he began his career under the apprenticeship of his father. By the time he was 20 years old he was already running his barbershop in London. In 1972 Sorbie enrolled on a six-month course at the Richard Henry School of Hairdressing and soon after graduating was snapped up by the Vidal Sassoon. While working for Sassoon, he pioneered the ‘wedge’, a geometric hairstyle adopted by numerous celebrities including style icon, Mia Farrow. Trevor Sorbie went on to work with Toni & Guy and John Frieda and continued to make serious waves in the industry.
Toni & Guy’s Anthony Mascolo once claimed Sorbie was "one of the best hairdressers ever, both directionally and creatively". In 1979, Trevor Sorbie opened his first salon in Covent Garden, London. Followed by four more salons across the country and a range of hair products sold worldwide. Sorbie is an unstoppable force of nature, and even after 50 years in the business, he continues to innovate and create a stir.
Not just a business person but a philanthropist too, Sorbie launched the charity My New Hair in 2006. My New Hair trains hairdressers to cut and style wigs so that they look – and feel – like real hair. Since its inception, the charity has trained 600 hairdressers and is working with the NHS to improve wig services for cancer patients. My New Hair is a deeply personal project for Sorbie. He was inspired to start the charity after he created a more natural looking wig for a family member undergoing cancer treatment. He now works for the charity full-time.
Naturally, Trevor Sorbie has won numerous awards; including the BHA British Hairdresser of the Year title an incredible four times. In 2004, he was awarded an M.B.E by the Queen for his services and dedication to his industry.
The Perfect Partnership
We decided to work with the Trevor Sorbie brand because their philosophy matches our own. Trevor believes in “real hair for real people”. He strives to create wearable styles that look as good on the high street as they do on the catwalk. Styles that work in day to day life and make the wearer feel great. Very few people are happy with their hair but good, innovative hairdressing can remedy this. That’s where we step in.
In my hairdressing experience, which is over 50 years now, I’ve realised that nobody is ever happy with their own hair.
To give them something that’s, let’s say, been unavailable before is like a gift to this industry. For clients that have any wavy, frizzy or untamed hair, this is where KeraStraight really fits the bill. It gives the clients something that they’ve never had before.Trevor Sorbie MBE
Trevor went on to explain why he chose to be Kerastraight’s Global Ambassador, why he felt we were a good match for the Trevor Sorbie brand.
We want to be associated with the best of the best and we feel that Kerastraight is one of those companies. That is like-minded to ours, where we’re forward thinking; always trying to do something that’s more inventive, new to our clients.Trevor Sorbie MBE
