Styling your own hair this New Year’s Eve?

As 2020 draws to a close, the chances are you may not be able to get to a salon as you prepare for the biggest night of the year. Don’t worry, whether you’re styling your hair for a big night in with family or a socially-distanced Zoom party with friends, we’ve got all the tips you need!

Zoom party-goers pay attention!

“If you’re staying in, just remember, when you take a picture of yourself on NYE no one can see the back!” says Sandy Wood. It might sound obvious, but it’s easily forgotten. In fact, this is something that’s well worth remembering for any big night if you’re planning on taking loads of photos!

Sandy suggests you check out some drying videos online and try an up-do, using KeraStraight Texture Crème to help you get creative.

Turn up the volume!

When we think of party glamour we think VOLUME!” says Steven Easton, Creative Stylist at Trevor Sorbie Hampstead. KeraStraight’s Root Boost is a non-sticky spray gel that adds body and volume without losing moisture”.

Steven suggests using Root Boost on towel dried hair, either spraying it close to the hair for proper ‘ooomf’ or from 6 inches away for a lighter feel, before combing through.

“The spray can also be applied and left to dry for a lighter hold without stiffness”, he says, “or on dry hair to restyle and build body. It’s perfect if you need to refresh or change your look without shampooing!”

Undone ‘done’ hair

“Now’s the time to be looking at what trended on this year’s catwalk to get inspiration for your NYE hairstyles”, says Georgia Bell. “There have been a lot of undone ‘done’ hair messy waves that are half up and half down, as well as undone topknots and buns. I think this is a great look to take inspiration from”.

We’re lucky that undone ‘done’ hair was one of 2020’s top trends – it’s much easier to pull off from home than a precision polished look if you don’t have all the products and all the tools! Play around with Texture Crème and Root Boost to prep your hair for an elegantly-tousled look.

Accessorising

Louise Foard, Creative Stylist at Trevor Sorbie Covent Garden, sums up how many of us view New Year’s Eve, saying “whether you love it or hate it, we can all agree that New Year’s Eve is a great excuse to get dressed up and go all out with hair and makeup”.

Whether you’re staying in or going out, it’s definitely a night to look your best! “There are so many options when it comes accessorising thanks to velvet ribbons, sparkly barrettes and statement headbands” says Louise. “Make the simplest of styles look glam by adding some unexpected detail like strands of sparkly fabric or a touch of glitter”.

Whatever your plans, and whichever style you choose, have a wonderful festive break and a great start to 2021. Our online store remains open, we’ll be back here on the blog early in January, and we’ve got plenty of exciting changes coming in 2021…!
